Session 1: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/week-8-number-addition-subtraction/

9 minutes into the second video on this page gives a good explanation of the method required. Children will have learnt exchanging in class during the week commencing 23/11/20.

Session 2: Children may benefit from drawing a picture in a bid to better understand what is being asked of them. Using columns for both addition and subtraction is the best method to use.

Session 3: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/maths-ks1--ks2-how-to-use-arrays-to-multiply/zrks382

This video is a great way of introducing arrays: visual representations of multiplication sentences.

Session 4: As with Session 3, children further explore the visual representation of multiplication sentences. 'Commutation' is the technical term in maths to explain that 3x5 is the same as 5x3.

Challenge: Children can make their own arrays using beads/counters/dried food at home and write down twp multiplication sentences for each.
